Proofreading

A proofreading edit is the last round of revisions. It is checking that everything is crossed and dotted. Sending in a manuscript for proofreading is like sending it to the publisher - we hope everything is perfect before the edit even starts!

This is where those minor consistency details are addressed. Will the manuscript read the United States or the United States of America? Will the time be 2:00 p.m. or two o’clock in the afternoon?

Focus

In a proofread, I will focus on:

  • Consistency

  • Grammar (Syntax)

  • Mechanics (Spelling, Punctuation, Capitalization, Hyphenation, Number Formatting)

What It Looks Like

Proofreading revisions are made in the manuscript text through Word Track changes. After completion, you will receive your manuscript with changes. Then, you simply accept or reject my recommendations.

There should be very few errors needing change on each manuscript page. More strongly indicate a line or copy edit may be necessary. Unsure? No worries! We can take a look at your sample edit for a good idea.

*Please note I only proofread manuscripts that have already been line or copyedited by a professional editor.

Not sure which service best suits your words? No worries!

I offer free sample edits of up 1,000 words to evaluate your manuscript’s needs before creating an estimate. I believe in best value and greatest fit. Please reach out with any questions about my editing philosophy or editorial process.
